San Diego Yacht Wedding: The Best Wedding Venue

A San Diego Yacht Wedding is Special

I have been privileged to assist with many San Diego Yacht weddings on numerous yachts as couples have tied the knot.  I can tell you it is a unique and special experience in an exquisite and beautiful setting.

There is nothing quite as sweet as watching as a newlywed couple say “I do” and kiss with the sun setting in the distance.  The backdrop of a sunlit building gleaming onshore in the background, the ...

Gray Whale Sex Life – It Takes Three

Gray Whale Sex

We all love gray whale watching, so let learn about gray whale sex.   Who doesn’t enjoy a nice, relaxing sail out to sea, anxiously searching in anticipation for that spout to appear upon the surface of the water?  There is something so majestic about watching a marine creature of such colossal size, swim so effortlessly through the water then breach fluently through the air and slap the water as they come back down. Just amazing.

Whales are the ...

Link between Sailing and Weight Loss?

Link between Sailing and Weight Loss?

Is there a link between  health, sailing and weight loss?  The holistic nutrition answer is YES!!

As a nutrition coach, I meet so many clients who can’t seem to find time for themselves let alone time for pleasure.  When we are stressed and drowning in responsibilities, our body turns out its survival response which is called the sympathetic system.  This is our flight or fight system which increases cortisol in our body, prompting it hold on to fat especially ...

Impact on Whales – Humans are to Blame

Enviromental Impact on Whales

It’s difficult to separate the environmental impact on whales without mentioning that humans are at the root cause.  Harmful toxins have affected every square mile of the earth’s oceans, and the implications are the same for both sea creatures and humans alike. Human activities, such as over-fishing, global warming and greenhouse gases, are affecting the world in ways we can’t imagine. It’s estimated that 40 percent of the earth’s marine ecosystems are ...

Shore Whaling in San Diego at Ballast Point

Ballast Point Beginning

Mariners, South Pacific bound, first visited San Diego in the 1820s and the gray whales became in danger, shore whaling begins. Two Portuguese-American brothers arrived in San Diego in 1857. One year later, Captain Packard and his brother set up shore-whaling operations at Ballast Point. They were joined by Africans, Irish, Spaniards, Mexicans and Englishmen. Ballas Point quickly became a major whaling hub with additional camps stationed in Baja California.

It’s rumored that Captain Packard and his ...

San Diego Whale Watching and Migration

The Long Migration

Beginning in the early winter there is great whale watching and the event continues through April as over 18,000 gray whales will make a 10,000 plus mile trek from Alaska to the lagoons of Baja Mexico. There, in the warmer waters of Baja, thousands of gray whale females will give birth. After several months the young whales will grow strong and the spring journey, back to Alaska, will begin. It is a migrating cycle that ...

San Diego Blue Whales in Abundance

San Diego Blue Whales in Abundance

The Blue Whales are Here

Blue Whales are in abundance off of San Diego’s shoreline.  On occasions, the surreal giants can be seen closer to shore, but often they are in deeper water off the Coronado Islands or the Nine Mile Bank.  Blue Whales can be 70 to 100 feet in length, weigh over 100 tons (which means that the tongue of a Blue Whale can alone weigh as much as 2.7 tons!), and have a distinctly blue color.  ...

Sea Lions on San Diego Bay

Sea Lions of San Diego

One of the most iconic sites to come across when touring the San Diego shoreline is sea lions.  Pinnipeds, a word taken from the Latin meaning fin-footed, is the over-arching animal family to which all seals belong.  Sea lions are direct members of the Pinniped family Oteriidae, sharing lineage with the fur seal and together making up what is commonly categorized as “eared seals”.  The sea lion’s external ear flaps make them distinctive ...

Red Bull Air Races ~ San Diego Boat Tours

Jodi, Logan and a group of friends chartered our 52-foot yacht for an afternoon of watching the Red Bull Air Races, and to celebrate Logan’s birthday. The four-hour charter began an hour earlier than originally planned, so we could get a good viewing spot! We managed to anchor in the middle of the Big Bay between the Navy Base on Coronado and the Embarcadero, so we had a pretty good view. The races were amazing, as the daredevil pilots flew ...

Whale Watching – Pod Spotted – Five Whales

Posted by:

Although whale watching we had to go out quite a ways to find them, we successfully spotted a pod of five whales! It was pretty amazing to see five at one time. The best part was that they were sort of just hanging around playing, basically circling for quite a while.  Most times when out on a whale watching charter the whales are intend on continuing on their journey south.

The whales were almost performing for us as ...

Burial at Sea of Holocaust Survivor

The woman whose ashes we were scattering had no children of her own, but her niece, nephew, their spouses, kids and mother said the most incredible things about this woman, and it was a beautiful send-off. Each member of the family said the nicest things, recalling happy memories out on the bow of the yacht before the ashes were lowered into the water and had her burial at sea. The husband of the niece had written two emotional ...
