Jodi, Logan and a group of friends chartered our 52-foot yacht for an afternoon of watching the Red Bull Air Races, and to celebrate Logan’s birthday. Although whale watching we had to go out quite a ways to find them, we successfully spotted a pod of five whales! It was pretty amazing to see five at one time. The best part was that they were sort of just hanging around playing, basically circling for quite a while. Most times when out on a whale watching charter the whales are intend on continuing on their journey south.

The woman whose ashes we were scattering had no children of her own, but her niece, nephew, their spouses, kids and mother said the most incredible things about this woman, and it was a beautiful send-off. Each member of the family said the nicest things, recalling happy memories out on the bow of the yacht before the ashes were lowered into the water and had her burial at sea. Tonight’s charter was hosted by a man from Texas who had always wanted to visit San Diego and finally said, “The heck with it, I’m just going.” Two of his friends had been invited to join him for a 4-hour sunset cruise for his first night in town.
